DESCRIPTION 

On this tour, you may discover places that you’ll never want to leave! Will your heart belong to Rome, Capri, Palermo, Agrigento or Sorrento? Perhaps to all of Italy itself? The beauty, architecture, warmth of its people and its sunshine will leave a long-lasting impression

on your soul.

 

ITINERARY

DAY 1 : Canada – Rome

Direct flight to Rome.

 

DAY 2 : Arrive Rome

Transfer to your hotel, and spend the afternoon enjoying the Eternal City at your leisure.  

 

DAY 3 : Rome

Enjoy a fully guided tour of the city, including the Vatican Museums (interior), Sistine Chapel (interior), and St. Peter's Basilica (interior). Then admire the Colosseum (exterior) and the Roman Forum (enterior). Spend the rest of your day at leisure. (BB)

 

DAY 4 : Rome (area) - Pompeii - Sorrento (280 kms)

After breakfast, depart for the Sorrentine Peninsula. Visit a cameo factory before heading to the ancient city of Pompeii, which was destroyed and buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 and rediscovered at the end of the 16th century. Then head to Sorrento. (BB/D).

 

DAY 5 : Sorrento - Capri - Sorrento (50 kms)

After a transfer to the harbour early in the morning, you'll depart for the island of Capri. Ride the funicular all the way up to the Piazzetta and explore the area. Return to Sorrento in the afternoon, where ytou'll enjoy tasting limoncello, the famous liquor made from lemons. (BB/D)

 

DAY 6 : Sorrento - Naples - At Sea (56 kms + ferry)

Spend the morning at leisure. In the afternoon, you'll be transferred to the port of Naples for your overnight ferry to Palermo, the capital of Sicily. You'll dine and spend overnight on board. (BB/D)

 

DAY 7 : Palermo - Monreale - Agrigento (150 kms)

After disembarking, you'll have breakfast at a local cafe, followed by a city tour of the main sights, including Palazzo dei Normanni (exterior) and the Palermo Cathedral (exterior). Continue to Monreale for a guided visit of its cathedral (interior), adorned with elaborate mosaics and gilded decor. Head to Agrigento. (BB/D)

 

DAY 8 : Agrigento - Taormina - Acireale (or Taormina) (265 kms)

Begin the morning with a guided tour of the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Then visit a farm and taste local SIcilian products. In the afternoon, depart for Taormina, a favorite among world travellers, and explore at your leisure. Situated on a natural terrace above the sea, this spectacular city will treat you to plenty of breathtaking views. Overnight in Acireale. (BB/D)

 

DAY 9 : Acireale (or Taormina) - Syracuse - Acireale (or Taormina) (175 kms)

Depart for Syracuse for a guided tour of the Greek theatre, Roman ampitheatre and Ear Dionysius, an ear-shaped grotto. Spend the afternoon at your leisure. (BB/D)

 

DAY 10 : Acireale (or Taormina) - Mount Etna - Rome (area) (60 kms + flight)

Begin the morning with an excursion to Mount ETna, Europe's highest active volcano. Visit the Rifugio Sapienza, set 1900 meters above sea level. Enjoy a farewell lunch at a traditional restaurant before heading to the Catania airport for your flight to Rome. You'll overnight in the vicinity of the Rome airport. (BB/D)

 

DAY 11: Rome • Toronto

Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (BB)

EXTRA TOUR INFORMATION

- Local visitor's tax is collected by each individual property and is not included in package costs. This is a fee charged directly by teh hotels in the range of 3-5 eauros per day.

- Transfer by airplane between Catania and Rome (20kg/person baggage allowance). Excess above this may be assessed extra baggage fees by the domestic airline.
